  • Overview

    The CLIA Laboratory General Supervisor is an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with strong people management skills that will be responsible for the supervision and oversight of the Clinical Laboratory Operation and personnel. As a General Supervisor, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

     

    • Day to day supervision and management of the clinical laboratory personnel
    • Assisting with day to day scheduling of tasks in the laboratory
    • Monitoring training and competency of laboratory personnel
    • Performance management of the laboratory personnel to reward and encourage positive/industrious work habits and best laboratory practices


    As a CLIA laboratory general supervisor, you will also be expected to train and develop the required ability to physically perform all of the assays in the laboratory, and routinely partake in the procedures required to send samples through the laboratory.

    Responsibilities

    • Work to develop and maintain a deep understanding of the molecular biology, automation, and sequencing methods that are integral to each Counsyl assay.
    • Train and develop the ability to perform all Counsyl molecular assays in the laboratory with expert dexterity.  
    • Assist with the validation of new molecular diagnostic assays as well as the validation of augmentations to the existing assays
    • Manage teams of Clinical Laboratory Scientists and unlicensed personnel with the following duties, in a dynamic high throughput environment:
      • Clinical testing of patient samples (blood, saliva, plasma)
      • Equipment related duties such as calibration and preventive maintenance
      • Training and competency
      • Validate new molecular diagnostic assays
      • Optimize and troubleshoot existing assays
    • Work closely with engineering and automation teams to help handle rapid growth in sample volume
    • Provide input to the QA department, which uses internal applications to prepare and maintain a host of regulatory documents
    • Work in collaboration with the manufacturing group, the service engineering group, and the production assay science division to maintain impeccable first pass yield across all production level assays.
    • Be prepared to attend daily GEMBA walks on the production line when needed.

    Qualifications

    • Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist License (CGMBS), required
    • At least 6 years of experience as a CLS, or 4 years of experience if candidate holds a Master’s degree
    • Experience with managing clinical laboratory personnel
    • Ability to wield a pipette with impeccable dexterity, accuracy, and precision
    • Ability to communicate clearly
    • Attention to detail and the ability to work in a highly regulated environment
    • Experience developing written procedures
    • Outstanding bench experience with knowledge of the following:
      • DNA Extraction
      • PCR Amplification
      • NGS techniques are a plus
    • Experience in CLIA regulated clinical labs / Biotech start-up/fast growth company or similar working environment will be very helpful
    • Advanced degrees will be favored
