    Job Title: Medical Information Liaison

    Responsibilities




      • Interact with healthcare providers and patients regarding all aspects of hereditary cancer testing and personalized medicine, including risk assessment, interpretation of results, medical management, sample submission and laboratory procedure.

      • Provide genetics education on all aspects of hereditary cancer, including inheritance patterns, risk analysis, Knudson hypothesis, cascade testing, potential ethical and legal implications of genetic testing, and genetic discrimination concerns.

      • Assist healthcare providers with the interpretation of complicated test results using knowledge on genetic testing techniques, including Sanger Sequencing, Next Generation Sequencing, microarray comparative genomic hybridization (microarray-CGH), Multiplex Ligation-dependent Probe Amplification (MLPA), and multiplex quantitative PCR.

      • Elicit pertinent medical information including personal and family cancer history, lifestyle norms, and environmental exposures in order to assess and calculate heredity and personal cancer risk using cancer risk models such as Tyrer-Cuzick and PREMM.

      • Identify and summarize pertinent medical and genetic information for patients undergoing genetic testing.

      • Provide pre and post-test medical support tailored to patient needs and level of scientific literacy, using medical society guidelines for testing criteria and management for hereditary cancer conditions to include Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer syndrome, Lynch Syndrome, and hereditary polyposis conditions.

      • Perform psychosocial assessment by evaluating patient’s mental and emotional status during pre and post-test conversations.

      • Obtain informed consent for research and enroll participants into Institutional Review Board-approved studies led by the Variant Classification and Laboratory Director groups.

      • Review and assess scientific literature on various aspects of hereditary cancer conditions.



      • Author at least one peer-reviewed publication, or author and present a scientific poster at a major conference using strong science communication skills and knowledge or previous experience analyzing clinical data.

      • Develop and present training to corporate based staff to enhance their understanding of Myriad’s products.

      • Contribute to the education and professional development of future genetic counselors in the community by supervising Genetic Counseling graduate students.




    • Education Required: Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling.

    Qualifications



    • Special Requirements:


       



      • Certification or Board Eligibility by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).

      • Hold or have ability to qualify for Utah State Genetic Counseling Licensure.

    • Travel Requirements: Domestic travel two times per fiscal year up to 5 days per trip.


    • Work Hours:  8:00 am. – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday.
