Overview

As a Front End Developer, you will work closely with both the User Experience team and the Software Development team to combine the art of design with the art of programming.  You will design and implement visual interactive elements of web applications for internal and external customers.  While collaborating with UX and software development team members, you will bridge the gap between interaction design and technical implementation, taking an active role in both sides by defining how an application looks, works, and is developed from a front end perspective.  This position is located in the Mason office and reports to the User Experience Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain front end web application features using HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery
  • Implement designs created primarily by yourself or by other UX team members with your input
  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use
  • Own, maintain, and enhance the structure of all front end assets
  • Work closely with back-end developers to integrate front end solutions into the code base
  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability from a client-side perspective
  • Validate user input in a friendly, elegant manner
  • Create interactive and non-interactive prototypes to conceptualize new features and new products to gather market requirements and validate that product features resonate with customers and end-users
  • Conduct usability testing to ensure excellent user experience, validate designs, and solicit feedback for product improvement
  • Collaborate on user experience design, testing, and research with other team members
  • Execute interaction design and visual design as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Maximize efficiency of end users by designing efficient and easy to use applications
  • Organize information using data from usability testing on how users interact with applications
  • Adhere to design and usability standards documentation
  • Adhere to HTML and CSS standards documentation
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in related discipline
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/jQuery skills
  • Experience with Angular.js and Angular Material
  • Solid written and verbal skills
  • Solid conceptualization ability
  • Solid visual communication ability
  • Solid knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3
  • Solid understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to resolve or work around them
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript and/or CSS animation
  • Experience with CSS pre-processing platforms such as LESS and SASS
  • Experience with at least one prototyping tool (Axure, Balsamiq, Visio, etc.) is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and associated design tools
  • Ability to interact effectively in an energetic/high-pressure, time-sensitive work environment
  • Solid time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively under tight timelines and schedules
  • Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member
  • Ability to see opportunities for usability improvements and present them to the team
  • Must be flexible, innovative, and self-motivated
  • Must have the flexibility to work extra hours to meet corporate and departmental goals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
